I focus primarily on surface quality, particularly line quality and pattern. I want my work to captivate and refresh people purely through a visual experience, without involving the intellect. I'm interested in making a beautiful object when I make my art. I think this is in response to how demanding the world is of us, in terms of thinking, coping and making meaning out of everything. I'd like my work to provide a little relief from that. I make paintings and drawings in mixed media, including acrylic, collage, and watercolor. I am also a textile designer.
I write about my art and process and that of other contemporary artists on my blog at lariwashburn.blogspot.com.
My blog has links to my Flickr photo stream, Pinterest boards and Tumblr blog.
I live in Wiscasset, a small village on the coast of Maine.
